Buried treasure is uncovered at Langone Park.

Aided by workers from the Wes Construction Corp. that is renovating the softball field, Jason Krupat and his family discover a key hidden beneath what had been home plate that allegedly can be exchanged for a jewel worth $1,000. It is one of a number of keys buried in parks in cities across the U.S. by the late Byron Preiss, who described their locations cryptically in a book entitled The Secret in 1982. (The so-called “Boston Verse” includes references to “Paul Revere’s Ride.”) Only two other keys have been located to date. The Boston discovery is featured in an episode of Expedition Unknown on the Discovery Channel on November 30, 2019.
